Clear future with Project Glass

For the past few years Google has slowly been dominating the technical world. The company leads the development of the Android mobile operating system, whilst also maintaining numerous desktop products and online productivity software. However all this has not stopped Google from continuing to push technological boundaries in the pursuit of more efficient and innovative software. Nothing demonstrates this better than their latest research and development program; Project Glass.

The basis of the project is to develop an augmented reality head mounted display, which exhibits information in a hands-free smartphone format, and interacts with the Internet via voice commands. In the current prototype the device records, streams and displays information through a small transparent screen above the user’s right eye, although the company has said it will add more functions over time. Though this technology may seem somewhat futuristic, it is not in itself a new idea. What has caught media attention is the backing of the project by Google, which has pledged to release the eyewear to consumers by 2014. Opinion was split at the latest development conference, although it is certain that if Google does manage to pull of this latest innovation, it will have solidified its position as a leader in technical innovation.
