A Different Kind of Sea Legs

The buzz surrounding Zaha Hadid’s Z.Boat has far from expired since she introduced us to the innovative boat design last year.  Recognised as one of the world’s best-known architects and a cutting-edge product designer, Zaha Hadid shows off her talents once again with her latest piece; a coffee table entitled Liquid Glacial.

The Liquid Glacial design embeds surface complexity and refraction within a powerful, fluid dynamic. Made of resin and acrylic, the pioneering design consists of multiple pieces; each resembling plates of moving ice. The elementary geometry of the flat table-top appears transformed from static to fluid by the subtle waves and ripples evident below the surface, while the table’s legs seem to pour from its top in an intense vortex of water frozen in time. The sophisticated design has already caused quite a stir in the design world, receiving a nomination in the ‘Future Segment’ of the London Design Museum’s 2013 awards.
